Your privacy matters to Walaal
This page explains, in plain language, what information Walaal collects and how it is handled.
Last reviewed: September 2026
The short version
Your personal records — applications, goals, reminders, saved resumes, and saved AI conversations — are private to your account and cannot be seen by other users. Walaal uses AI to help you, and processes documents using private storage with short-lived access links. Walaal does not sell your data.
Account information
When you create an account, Walaal stores your email address and name, along with a role. The default role is "user". Administrative access is restricted to authorised administrators and is not available to ordinary users. Authentication is provided through the platform's authentication system.
Personalisation data
To give you more relevant guidance, Walaal lets you add optional profile details such as your suburb, goals, experience, education, and English level. This information stays on your profile and is used to tailor suggestions and next steps.
Applications, goals, reminders, and saved resumes
The records you create — job and study applications, personal goals, document expiry reminders, and saved resumes — are stored under your account. These records are associated with your account and are not visible to other users. Administrators do not have access to your personal records through the app; the underlying platform may access data as necessary to operate and secure the service.
Guide checklists and progress on your device
The tick-box checklists in Walaal’s Life Guides (including the “I just arrived in Australia” pathway) do not require an account and are not sent to Walaal’s servers. Your ticks are saved only in your own browser’s local storage, on your device. They are never shared, and clearing your browser data removes them permanently.
Saved AI conversations
Conversations you have with the Walaal assistant can be saved to your account so you can return to them later. These saved conversations are private to you; other users cannot see them.
How AI features process information
Walaal’s assistant and tools use AI language models to generate responses. To answer you, the platform sends your message and relevant context (such as your profile and recent conversation) to the AI provider for processing. Try to avoid sharing unnecessarily sensitive details in chat.
Document Explainer privacy model
When you use the Document Explainer, your document is uploaded to private, authenticated storage — not a public URL — and the AI is given a short-lived signed link so it can read the document for that request only.
- Documents are stored privately; they are not published on a public URL.
- After processing, the app clears references to the file from your session.
- Document contents are not stored in analytics, browser storage, error messages, logs, or your conversation history.
Because the underlying storage currently does not provide a self-service physical deletion API, Walaal cannot currently guarantee immediate physical deletion of the underlying uploaded file. If you have a privacy concern about an uploaded document, please contact Walaal so the request can be reviewed.
Data retention
Your account records. Records such as applications, goals, reminders, saved resumes, and saved conversations remain stored in your account until you delete them from within the app, or until you request account deletion.
Uploaded Document Explainer files. When you use the Document Explainer, the app clears its references to your document after processing, and the short-lived access link expires within minutes. However, the underlying private storage currently does not expose a physical deletion API, so Walaal cannot guarantee immediate physical deletion of the underlying uploaded file. If you have a concern about an uploaded document, please contact Walaal.
Community contributions. Stories or acts of kindness you post may remain visible to the public as described when you posted them, until you delete them or request removal.
Your rights
- View, edit, or delete your applications, goals, reminders, resumes, and saved conversations at any time within the app.
- Delete your community contributions where the platform allows it.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting Walaal.
Third-party services
Walaal relies on third-party infrastructure for hosting, authentication, file storage, and AI language processing. These providers process data on Walaal’s behalf to operate the platform. Walaal does not sell your personal information.
Contacting Walaal about privacy
If you have a privacy concern or a data request — including a request to review your information or remove your account — please reach out through the Contact page. Every request is reviewed, though Walaal cannot guarantee a specific deletion outcome for all underlying stored data.
